SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES A NATION BETRAYED

Our American horses and burros need our help and WFLF's "Saving America's Horses" is the answer! This documentary feature film project is the most powerful, inspirational and unified souce of information on this topic ever made. Wild horses, racehorses, ponies, burros, and more; are under siege across the country. Wild equines are being rounded up by the thousands from their rightful native lands and oftentimes shipped to destinations unknown. Domestic equines such as show horses, pet horses, quarter horses and more are disappearing in vast numbers. Where are our horses going?

 

The market for horsemeat which is sold as a delicacy in foreign countries, is what drives the horse slaughter industry. The slaughter of American horses has continued unabated, despite the closing of the last three equine slaughter houses in 2007. Even though California voters enacted a ban on the slaughter of horses and the sale of horsemeat for human consumption in 1998, California horses continue to be transported and sold out of state for these purposes. Protecting California horses is an ongoing challenge, but can be resolved through the passage of a Federal ban on the handling of horses for purposes of slaughter for human consumption.

Whether retiring from a career due to injury, or if for some other reason a horse doesn't measure up, many horses wind up in the slaughter pipeline. “Saving America’s Horses, A Nation Betrayed” presents a focused look into the unseen world of both wild and domestic equines. It’s an investigative exposé that unravels multiple layers of conflict with a revealing look into the hidden pipeline of discarded horses.
