Lifetime Equine Refuge & Rescue (LERR) is the Equine Rescue division of Wild for Life Foundation, a CA 501 (c)(3) organization. We support the rescue of slaughter-bound horses. LERR is a volunteer-based, equine rescue and rehabilitation organization located in Southern California.

Rescuing slaughter bound horses is NOT a solution to ending horse slaughter! ...But through the WFLF equine rescue program, “Lifetime Equine Refuge”, we rescue Thoroughbreds and other breeds of slaughter bound equines to help raise awareness and support to BAN horse slaughter. Equines have been around for millions of years and are very wise beings. We provide ongoing care, rehab and sanctuary for these rescued majestic beings who in turn help us to educate the public about their needs. Locating appropriate foster homes, permanent homes and needed vet care are all part of our ongoing work for these horses.

Ban Horse SlaughterWanted Horse Campaign

THE NEED FOR HORSE RESCUE IS DRIVEN BY THE MARKET FOR HORSEMEAT

The market for horsemeat which is sold as a delicacy in foreign countries, is what drives the horse slaughter industry. The slaughter of American horses has continued unabated, despite the closing of the last three equine slaughter houses in 2007. Even though California voters enacted a ban on the slaughter of horses and the sale of horsemeat for human consumption in 1998, California horses continue to be transported and sold out of state for these purposes. The protection of California horses is difficult and dependent on the passage of a federal ban on the movement of horses for purposes of slaughter for human consumption. We are dedicated to protect all equines from slaughter until they are safe.
